It is possible to share documents in a way that's much more secure and usable than sending email attachments back and forth.

Email is one of the most widely-used channels in the world. This is especially true for businesses, who rely on email to collaborate and communicate throughout the course of daily operations. But why do we use email? It's rise to prominence may have had something to do with it's existence on IP channels. It may have been convenient and viable at one time, but email's shortcomings have become all too clear in the present day.

More companies are realizing how ineffective email is every day. In addition to lacking proper security, there is a concern that email is ineffectively organized and so heavily leveraged that it's impossible to distinguish important missives from junk messages. According to No Jitter contributor Brian Riggs, a growing number of organizations are looking for business email alternatives and turning to other solutions – namely ones originating in the cloud – that can replace email. Part of the key to getting rid of the channel for an email alternative comes from realizing that it might take several different components in order to optimize functionality.

One asset that is proving to be valuable in the fight against email is cloud-based faxing. By taking the technology behind the machine with business fax services and modernizing them with cloud and mobile capabilities, it is possible to share documents in a way that’s much more secure and usable than sending email attachments back and forth.

More companies will take to the cloud in 2015
While cloud technology of any kind tends to have an unfair stigma attached to it, a growing number of organizations are finding that cloud horror stories have more to do with who is using it rather than the cloud itself. Perhaps this is why there is expected to be a major push toward the cloud in 2015. According to TMCnet contributor Laura Stotler, recent research has found that cloud adoptions are likely to increase over the next year.

"The cloud is evolving to meet the needs of end users and enterprises and infrastructure and services are also transforming as service providers better understand how to meet customer demands efficiently and cost effectively," Stotler wrote. "2015 promises to be a standout year for the cloud, with adoption rates expected to rise significantly and with increased usage will offer challenges and milestones."

This not only means a wider implementation of the cloud as an infrastructure, but also as the basis of individual assets. One of the most popular ways to leverage the cloud in the enterprise is through cloud-based, business fax services. Faxing as a channel has been the butt of countless jokes about old technology. But while the endpoints and hardware may have aged poorly, the concept has not. In fact, it's more relatable than ever. Secure document transmission hasn't gone out of style, but many people forego the fax machine in favor of email, which is seen as more convenient. By leveling the playing field and making a fax just as easy to send or receive, email will quickly find itself disappearing.
