Cloud computing has proven itself to be the way of the future. Yet, there are still those out there who perceive it to be less secure than traditional IT.
"As we continue to see headlines in the media about security breaches like PRISM, more and more organizations are developing a fear about moving at least some of their services to the cloud," wrote TMCnet contributor Stefanie Viscusi, referencing a recent study on cloud computing. "Seventy-five percent of the poll respondents reportedly said security fears were the number one reason they still hadn't fully moved to the cloud."
But the cloud is not the problem here. Often, cloud-related breaches can be related to human error or the other technologies it is being used in conjunction with. Using the cloud with fax servers, for example, is much safer than using it alongside email platforms.
Cloud-based fax is becoming a necessity in many industries. Email, for as much as it is used, is not an appropriate way to securely transmit sensitive documents. In order to make sure privileged information stays that way, cloud-based faxing will be required.
More companies moving to cloud
While there are still some negative opinions out there, the cloud is winning more people over every day. This can be attributed in part to employees' continued personal success in the cloud. They see the benefits in their everyday lives and expect their offices to, as well.
According to InformationWeek contributor Charles Babcock, an increasing number of IT departments are pursuing cloud initiatives. Much of this may have to do with attempts to curb shadow IT operations, which have plagued companies for a better part of the mobile age.
"[I]f it was once true that non-IT departments led a company's decision-making on adopting cloud, that predominance of shadow IT is no longer the case," Babcock wrote in regard to new research on IT spending. "Not only has the enterprise spend on cloud grown by 38 percent over the last year, IT's share of that spending now reaches 80 percent of the total."
The truth is that every company out there should be looking into new ways to leverage the cloud. For those organizations that require secure communications, cloud-based fax is an essential way to accomplish this.
