As the modern workday has become longer than ever, many employees have started to rely on publicly available Wi-Fi in places like coffee shops, subways and taxis to keep business running. Realizing this trend is not going away anytime soon, many airlines are starting to offer Internet on their flights to save travelers from being disconnected for hours in the air.

While the ability to provide Internet access on airplane is no easy feat – it has to be beamed up to the plane from hundreds of towers on the ground or from satellites above – the only thing consumers understand is whether or not they are receiving the kinds of speeds they've come to expect from their Wi-Fi connections at home.

"Passengers are expecting more and more capacity, more and more bandwidth, just like they experience on the ground," said Steve Nolan, a spokesman for in-flight Internet provider Gogo.

"U.S. airlines have invested billion of dollars in finding new ways to receive Internet signals to improve connections."

In order to improve in-flight experiences, U.S. airlines have invested billion of dollars in finding new ways to receive Internet signals to make connections faster. A recent study conducted by travel analytics firm Routehappy ranked each airline on Wi-Fi service standards based on U.S. domestic flights. According to the report, Virgin America offers the most reliable Wi-Fi service, as all of their planes are equipped with air-to-ground antennas that use a similar technology as 3G cell service. However, for the fastest Internet connection, United or JetBlue are the best bets. JetBlue uses a satellite technology that dramatically increases Wi-Fi speeds and even allows passengers to stream video.

"Ten years ago, Internet access was still viewed as being geeky," said Thinkbroadband editor Andrew Ferguson. "However, everyone now wants to be able to check social media and as a result, more and more of us are constantly checking our mobile phones…sitting on a plane without internet access feels like a retro experience."

Continue business as usual while traveling with FoIP
As Wi-Fi becomes available in more places, a growing number of Americans are getting accustomed to being constantly connected through their devices. Work doesn't stop needing to be done simply because you are on a flight, and with Internet fax solutions, it doesn't have to. Fax-over-IP or FoIP allows users to send and receive sensitive business documents from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection, even when they're 30,000 feet above the ground. FoIP systems transmit faxes over the Internet instead of a traditional phone line, allowing users to send and receive documents directly from their email.

By utilizing a FoIP solution, businesses can continue to operate normally from anywhere without having to sacrifice the security and reliability of fax technology. Files sent through FoIP are legally recognized in the same way as a traditional fax, making it the ideal way to send sensitive documents like contracts, invoices or health records.

Enhance enterprise communication, collaboration and compliance efforts with a proven FoIP solution from FaxCore. Contact FaxCore today to learn more about their 'Partly-Cloudy' fax solutions.
