With the nonstop pace of modern business, professionals are increasingly looking for devices that offer more mobility and allow them to be flexible about when and where they work. This was evidenced by a recent report from research firm Gartner that found the mobile device industry will experience a boost in sales this year with a 4.2 percent growth, reviving the sector after a drop in revenue last year.
The study predicted mobile phone sales would reach almost 2 billion units in 2014, an increase of more than 3 percent from last year. Smartphone sales are expected to grow in a similar fashion, as Gartner estimates they will represent 88 percent of mobile phone sales worldwide by 2018, up from 66 percent this year. Across the globe, shipments of mobile devices – including PCs, tablets, and smartphones – are expected to reach more than 2 billion units in the next six months.
Due in most part to an increased interest in mobility, sales of traditional PCs have witnessed a decline this year. The PC sector saw a shipment decrease of 20,000 units from last year, and Gartner expects another 15,000 unit drop for 2015.
As demand grows for devices that offer the ability to be mobile, companies must consider ways to integrate mobility into legacy technology. Most probably don’t consider fax machines to be the epitome of modern, mobile devices, but with a fax-over-IP service, faxes can be just as flexible a form of communication as email. So what is the meaning of mobile fax and how does it work? Fax-over-internet services allow businesses to send documents via the WiFI/Internet and receive them in an email message. Any Internet-enabled device can receive a fax, meaning businesses can continue mobile faxing services from anywhere with a WiFi connection.
