Cloud not just about saving money

The idea that the cloud is solely a financial solution and is inherently weak against cyberthreats is unfounded.

There are some people who wrongly believe that the cloud is all about cutting costs. Many perceive it to be a shortcut that is lax in the way of security. Using cloud technology within the enterprise may save some money, but it is seen by portion of individuals as a fad with no real legs to stand on.

But according to recent research from Gartner, the idea that the cloud is solely a financial solution and is inherently weak against cyberthreats is unfounded

"Cloud computing is uniquely susceptible to the perils of myths due to the nature, confusion and hype surrounding it," Gartner stated in a release. "These myths slow things down, impede innovation and induce fear, thus distracting from real progress, innovation and outcomes."

One way in which the cloud can be leveraged by enterprises is by adapting fax services for the present day. Fax machines are still essential and in-use within a variety of fields, but the increasing need for mobility has caused some friction. Fax machines as we know them are not the most mobile thing in the world, but that doesn't mean the concept behind them is outdated. By facilitating fax capabilities through software-defined interfaces, it is possible to give the technology more of a modern face.

No reason to fear the cloud
While a number of naysayers are pushing against it, there are still countless cases to point to where the cloud has done some good for the people who use it – namely those in the business world.

"Companies are now starting to realize the cloud's potential as an innovation tool and alongside adoption rates, this looks set to rise significantly in the next few years," stated Cloud Tech News contributor Dave Paulding. "Going forward, businesses can advance strategies for cloud-oriented innovations and use cloud-enabled business models to promote a sustainable competitive advantage."

One way to do this is to start leveraging cloud-based faxing. This method of document transmission is one of the most reliable and convenient out there. Smartphone apps and desktop programs allow faxes to be sent and received without having to print files out and re-scan them several times. This is a significant operational advantage that many organizations are in great need of. Those in medical professions, for example, are prohibited from sending patient records as email attachments. Email is easily hacked and abused, meaning that anything sensitive contained in a message can be easily obtained by those who want it bad enough. Cloud-based fax removes this issue by taking secure fax servers and outfitting them with remote accessibility.

Overcoming obstacles
Some short-sighted people may think that the cloud has no place in business. But the fact of the matter is that the cloud is only what people make it. If the right precautions are taken, then cloud-based faxing can foster productivity and innovation while also saving some money.
