The impact of human actions on the environment is becoming more obvious, and an increasing number of enterprises are starting to implement green business practices in response. A simple way to make an eco-friendly office is by employing an online fax solution. There are numerous benefits to a green fax over IP solution, and they impact not just a business' budget, but its employees and customers as well.

A study conducted by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles found that organizations that voluntarily adopt green business practices have employees who are 16 percent more productive than those who do not.

"It's a counterpoint to people thinking that environmental practices are detrimental to the firm," said Magali Delmas, a professor at UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability who worked on the study. "Green practices make a company more attractive because so many employees want to work for a company that is green, but we also argue in this [environmental impact] paper that it's more than just wanting to work there – it's working more."

Similarly, a Cone Consumer Environmental Survey found that customers also care about a company's green methods. The study discovered 85 percent of Americans would consider using another product if their usual supplier had a negative record on social responsibility.

Green aspects of FoIP
The biggest environmental benefit of fax over IP is the amount of paper it saves. When a fax is received, FoIP service providers like FaxCore convert the contents to a PDF and email it to the specified recipients; no paper is necessary. The fax to email format also makes documents shareable without needing to print out multiple sheets of paper, since emails can simply be forwarded to the parties concerned. All of the converted PDF files are stored on an organization's dedicated server, creating a cloud-based archive of documents that saves on energy costs and storage space.

"We do not use paper unless absolutely necessary," Joe Ballarino, president and CEO of green business Amerivest Realty, told Business News Daily. "Online faxing allows us to move faxes that need saving into our online storage systems, saving paper and ink and their related costs."

FoIP is also able to save paper and ink by eliminating spam faxes. Because a business' fax number is not as publicly available, outside actors can't randomly select a number and send wasteful messages.

Implementing an online faxing solution also helps businesses reduce their carbon footprint. Sending faxes overseas is extremely cost effective with FoIP, allowing for better communication with foreign offices and enabling companies to cut down on international travel.
