Forbes Insights released a survey, sponsored by Cisco, that looks at how business leaders are looking more to cloud-collaboration as a means to boost productivity and jump-start business results. Global interviews with over 500 executives revealed the growing use of cloud for employee teamwork opportunities.

The findings demonstrated that the cloud enables businesses to be more efficient. Fifty-eight percent of total respondents – and 90 percent of respondents classified as "leaders" (CEOs, CFOs, vice presidents of IT, etc.) – said that utilizing cloud-based collaboration could potentially boost everyday business operations like purchasing, manufacturing and sales. These collaboration tools enable companies to respond to problems more quickly and effectively.

"The ability to collaborate in the cloud is becoming a key driver of competitive advantage," expounded Bruce Rogers, chief insights officer of Forbes Media.

The research also showed that 64 percent of respondents said cloud-based technology enabled them to work faster than if they had used other tools. Eighty-two percent of leaders noted the same benefit from using the cloud features. The ease and accessibility of cloud-based collaboration tools make once complicated activities, like sending large documents or having a conference call, much simpler.

Employees get creative with the cloud

The survey went on to say that cloud collaboration has the ability to spur innovation. Fifty-nine percent of respondents, 93 percent of which are identified as business leaders, agree that innovation flourishes when employees work with cloud-based tools.

According to the survey, "[E]nhanced innovation is an almost unavoidable consequence of providing more executives and workers with new and more effective ways of sharing information, enabling business model innovation and new service delivery options with more people both within and without their organizations."

Oft-ignored machines can play in the cloud too

Big name corporations like Hershey, Shell, GE and Starbucks all embrace collaboration technologies for a simple reason: companies who's employees are highly engaged can grow revenue to more than twice of those with low engagement. Ninety percent of businesses using cloud-based collaboration tools say they see a productivity benefit to their business.

One way companies don't even realize they can utilize the cloud is through fax-over-Internet-protocol, or FoIP, services. Fax machines that utilize landlines are outdated and can slow down a business' productivity. Companies like FaxCore can help to enable an office with the most current fax services. It's even possible to keep your existing fax machine and connect it to a FaxScan device that eliminates the cost of a dedicated fax phone line. Sending faxes is still a necessity in many industries and FaxCore can make it possible to modernize a long-outdated system.
